IRA Charitable Rollover / QCD
Gifts from a traditional IRA directly to the Hospital for Special Care Foundation can reduce taxes, meet RMD requirements, and create a lasting impact.
To Qualify for a QCD:
- Must be age 70 ½ or older.
- Transfers must be made directly from a traditional IRA to Hospital for Special Care (HSC) by the plan administrator. Withdrawals made by you and then contributed do not qualify.
- Gifts from 401(k), 403(b), SEP, or other retirement plans do not qualify.
- Gifts must be outright—cannot fund donor-advised funds or life-income arrangements.
Important: QCDs must go directly to Hospital for Special Care, not to supporting organizations such as Hospital for Special Care Foundation or Manes & Motions. We will honor donor intent for all gifts made to Hospital for Special Care.
Benefits:
- Not included in gross income for federal tax purposes (no charitable deduction).
- Counts toward your RMD if required.
- Reduces IRA value, lowering future RMDs.
Example:
Jane, 73, has a $20,000 RMD she does not need. She authorizes her IRA administrator to transfer $20,000 directly to Hospital for Special Care Foundation. The gift is not taxed and counts toward her RMD.
Getting Started:
Contact your IRA administrator to make the transfer, and let us know so we can track it. Consult your financial or tax advisor before giving.
